The head line is the line that shows the quality of the intellect and the mental set. It is the second major line of the palm and one that, however short or weak, has to be there if you are going to make it. If there is only one crosswise line on the palm, this is the head line. If there are two – more or less parallel to each other, the head line is the lower of the two.
The head line begins on the side of the palm between the thumb and the index finger, just above the start of the life line; sometimes these lines are joined at the start, and are directed more or less horizontally across the middle of the hand.
Besides showing the mentality and power of the intellect, this line has much to do with attitudes toward life. This line may run more or less straight across the hand or it may swing downward, along the curve of the life line, or it may head upward towards the base of the ring finger or the little finger. Sometimes it starts on the face of the palm just before the inside of the index finger.
Like the life line, it may be marked with chains, islands, stars, squares, crosses, breaks. The time in life when the events indicated by these marking occur can be judged by the distance along the line into three sections for youth, adulthood, and age beginning with the start of the line on the inside of the palm below the index finger. If the head line and the life line are joined at the start, use the start of the life line as the start of the head line.
Judging the head line
If the head line and the life line are joined at the start, it shows a strong sense of mind over body, a careful even fearful, outlook, particularly in childhood
Separated at the start, it shows a love of adventure, one who greets the life experience with enthusiasm
If the line is long and deep and straight, running directly across the palm to the outer edge. It shows a logical and direct mind, someone with a realistic and outstanding intellect. The straighter the line, the more realistic the thinking: the deeper the line, the better is the memory
A light wavery line shows poor ability to concentrate and lack of depth in thinking but not necessarily a lack of intellectuality
A short deep head line with a short deep life line is often seen on the hands of men who have bulldozed their way to success
Short and up curved, the line means poor ability to concentrate, a scatterbrain
